Escape to The Chateau

Escape to the Chateau Top IMage

Six years ago, we stumbled across Chateau de la Motte Husson, a derelict 19th century fairy tale chateau in the Pays de la Loire with 45-rooms, a moat, orangery, 12 acres, 7 outbuildings and huge potential for our new life in France.

Moving to a new home, in a foreign country, in the middle of winter, with no electric, sewerage or heating, and our two very young children in tow, could be considered foolish. But we fell in love with the Chateau instantly.

After decades of neglect, the Chateau needed hard work and dedication to bring it back to life. It was a renovation on the grandest of scales, but we were up for the challenge and set to work on our dream.

Our adventures were recorded in Channel 4’s primetime series ‘Escape to the Chateau’, now filming its eighth season. We are so proud to have this documentary of our lives to show the children one day.

During lockdown in Spring 2020, we made ‘Escape to the Chateau Make Do & Mend’ (filmed entirely by us!), where we helped the others with their DIY dilemmas and crafting conundrums. With more ‘Escape’ in the pipeline, we can’t wait to share our Chateau adventures with you.

Thank you for being on this journey with us!

Escape to the Chateau: Make Do and Mend

In spring 2020, with the world in lockdown, we teamed up (virtually) with families across the UK looking for practical advice and inspiration for a home project of their own. Our new DIY and homecraft series - Escape to the Chateau: Make Do and Mend – was filmed entirely by us at The Chateau and became Channel 4’s biggest new series launch in the primetime 8pm slot.

This summer we return to help the nation solve more make-do and mend dilemmas with clear “how to” advice, and some of our own tips and tricks.

And we need YOU! If you would like to take part in the series, you can apply at [email protected]

Between the pair of us we have nearly a century’s worth of “make do and mend” experience and so we are really excited to share our knowledge and passion with families across the UK. Finding ourselves with more time at home is a fantastic opportunity to fix those items that have been waiting for years, or to embark on a creative project. Make Do and Mend is about giving something you’ve always wanted to do a go, and bringing some happiness and joy into your home.

We can’t wait to share this with you!
